The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, under the Aus4ASEAN Digital Transformation and
Future Skills initiative, invites applications from ASEAN countries to attend a short course on Green Skills in
TVET in Australia. The two-week short course is designed for ASEAN citizens working in the field of Technical
and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and skills development. The short course will facilitate an
exchange of knowledge on incorporating green skills in TVET training.
In Australia, the participants will have an opportunity to connect with Australian training centres that are
incorporating green skills in TVET training, and meet with representatives from the Australian Government
agencies, including Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA), the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the
Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).
The short course will be delivered in Australia on 29 January - 9 February 2024.
The program consists of a two-week course in Australia and a one day online briefing session.
The course will help participants to:
- Define, analyse and develop scenarios for the
future of green skills and green jobs
- Reflect on the challenges TVET institutions face in
the transition to respond to greener jobs including
identifying the skills required for these jobs, the
extent to which the skills can be met by existing
workers transitioning to new roles, the level of
skills mobility and transferability, relevant training
pathways, barriers faced by SME businesses, and
opportunities for greater involvement by women
and other underrepresented groups in green jobs
- Analyse regional best practices for the TVET
systems/standards/frameworks and TVET
institutions in countries which have transitioned to
clean energy and more sustainable practices
(related to ATC Outcome 2)
- Analyse regional models and standards for
alternative/flexible TVET delivery, including
competency standards, assessment and
certification in green skills (related to ATC
Outcome 2)
- Develop strategies for harmonisation,
development and dissemination of regional
standards in green skills (related to ATC
Outcome 3)
- Develop strategies and plans to enhance the
capacity of TVET personnel to further green
skills (political decision makers, managers,
teachers and trainers, incl. private companies)
(related to ATC Outcome 3) - what skills do TVET
trainers/teachers need, how can these be
delivered, what are the most appropriate
upskilling mechanisms, and how can these skills
be kept updated
- Develop strategies to enhance utilisation of
labour market information on the demand for
green skills to support responsiveness of TVET
curriculum
- Determine the most appropriate investments
and partnerships with private sector in the TVET
sector to respond to the increased demand for
green skills
- Identify opportunities to leverage existing
training programmes that develop green skills
and respond to the demand for green skills
- Understand how governments and TVET
institutions can best develop learning resources
for green skills training
The course is designed for 25 participants from ASEAN countries, including representatives from governments, TVET
training facilities, universities, and industry associations with minimum four years—experience and a relevant role in
green skills in TVET or developing policies that support green skills in TVET training delivery.
Requirements
- You are a citizen of one of these countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar,
the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam
- A bachelorʼs degree or higher qualification is desirable
- You have at least four yearsʼ experience working with the government, a TVET training facility,
university or an Industry association
- You work in a relevant role in green skills in TVET or developing policies that support green skills in
TVET training delivery
- You have professional working proficiency in English. The applicantsʼ English language competency
is part of the selection process. The assessment of language competency is based on a phone
interview and any additional evidence provided by the applicant (proof of studies or living in an
English-speaking country, working in an English-speaking environment, completion of studies in
English, language courses or language tests)
- Your supervisor endorses your application
- You are committed to engage actively and foster networks with multiple stakeholders
- You are committed to sharing expertise with other participants on the course and to disseminating
learning from the course with colleagues and peers
